What is the Retail Energy Code?

The Retail Energy Code (REC) is an energy industry code, which is a set of rules that companies who work within the industry must follow.

There are many codes and sets of rules for energy companies, the REC is specifically related to the selling of energy (retail) to you as the consumer.

The REC aims to make the industry more efficient, better value for money and focused on positive consumer outcomes.

How does the REC impact my energy bills?

The Retail Energy Code does not control or oversee rules relating to the cost of your energy, however we do have an impact on your bills in other ways:

Through the REC Change Process two key considerations are improving efficiency and achieving value for money. Both of these may enable your supplier to pass savings onto you through your bills.

The Retail Energy Code is funded by the Energy Industry which means there may be a small annual charge included within the existing costs on your energy bill.
