Metering Safety Bulletins

Metering Safety Bulletins are important to ensure the safety of Metering Equipment Managers (MEMs) and Distribution Network Operators (DNO) operatives whilst working on site. Metering Safety Bulletins are provided by DNOs and shared with the industry via the Metering Hub. This article provides an overview of the obligations surrounding Bulletins, the process for raising and publication and where to find published Bulletins.

Obligations

There are obligations between MEMS and DNO's relating to Health and Safety Bulletins. These are outlined in Consolidated Metering Code of Practice (CoMCoP) Appendix 13 Exchange of Information between DNOs and MEMs.

DNOs are obliged to provide MEMs with Health and Safety Bulletins/Announcements relevant to DNOs which cause urgent or non-urgent variations to their standard working practices.

How to Submit Safety Bulletins

DNOs can submit Safety Bulletins to the Code Manager via email at enquiries@recmanager.co.uk. Upon receipt, the Code Manager will review the contents and share with Members of the REC Metering Expert Panel for approval.

The REC Metering Expert Panel Members will review both the content and the urgency of the Safety Bulletin and agree firstly whether the Safety Bulletin should be published on the Metering Hub and secondly the timing of the communication to the industry.

Publication

Safety Bulletins will be published on the REC Portal Metering Hub and communications will be issued by the Code Manager in two ways. Non-urgent Safety Bulletins are communicated in the REC Weekly Bulletin on Friday mornings. Urgent Safety Bulletins are communicated to industry by email at the time of publication.
