Domestic Premises Indicator (DPI)

The Domestic Premises Indicator (DPI) is required by the Central Switching Service (CSS) to identify domestic premises. The indicator is held within CSS and is updated by the Registered Supplier. Within Electricity Enquiry Service (EES) and Gas Enquiry Service (GES) the Domestic Premises Indicator is shown as either F to represent that the supply of Energy is not related to a Domestic Premises or to T showing that it is a Domestic Premise.

Change of Domestic Premises Indicator

As the Data Master for the Domestic Premises Indicator, the Registered Supplier is responsible for the accuracy of the data item and should update the indicator when it becomes aware that it is not correct by submitting a Change of Domestic Premises Indicator Request to the CSS Provider.

The Change of Domestic Premises Indicator Request should be sent on the day that the Registered Supplier becomes aware of a historic change,  or on the date when a planned change becomes effective. The Domestic Premises Indicator cannot be retrospectively corrected.

Where a change of Domestic Premises Indicator is accepted the CSS provider will send notifications and synchronisation messages to the relevant parties.

The status of the Domestic Premise Indicator should not prevent a new switch or initial registration from taking place. If an Energy Supplier disagrees with the values they can amend the DPI once they are the Registered Supplier following the process for amendment.

The full process for change of Domestic Premises Indicator is outlined in the interface table provided in Section 16 of Schedule 23 - Registration Services.
