Safe Isolator Provider (SIP) Webinar (05 July 2022)

On 05 July 2022 (10:00 - 11:30), the REC Code Manager hosted a virtual webinar to inform REC stakeholders about proposed changes to introduce a new Safe Isolator Provider (SIP) role into the REC.

Summary

REC Change Proposal R0021 has been raised to support electricity consumers wanting to install isolators or equipment for use of the occupiers of a property.

Currently, a landlord needs to liaise with the electricity Supplier of each property independently to arrange for the appointed Meter Equipment Manager (MEM) to attend and de-energise each supply point and then re-energise the site when the work is completed.

The solution being considered in the REC will allow a landlord to use any REC-accredited Safe Isolator Provider (SIP) to completed required works in such circumstances. The SIP would be a new industry role.

During Impact Assessment for R0021, a number of questions were raised with respect to the proposed solution. Consolidated answers to the questions raised can be found here.
